PHONE & TECHNOLOGY POLICY
In the past, we have spent an unrealistic amount of time and energy trying to manage phone and technology use at school. We have seen technology use become a major distraction in class and in between classes, robbing students of the opportunity to create real connection with each other. We are committed to preserving the best learning environment possible and the space for healthy face to face connection.
Because of this, all phones, earbuds/headphones, smart watches, tablets, laptops, etc. are to be left at home, or to be checked in at the front desk upon arriving at school, and can be collected after school is finished. Technology is not to leave the phone zone in the front lobby. None of these devices are to be in the classrooms. Exceptions will be made with permission from a mentor for presentation purposes and will then be checked in immediately afterwards. If necessary, students will be able to check timely messages during the lunch break, honoring the phone zone in the front lobby, and returning all devices before class begins after lunch.
If any devices are found in the classroom or outside of the phone zone, parents will be notified and the device will be kept in the front office until a parent comes to retrieve it personally during school hours.
